Ochoa is an extremely condensed display typeface offered in a single style. It pays tribute to Rafael Ochoa, the author’s teacher at Colegio Agustiniano Norte, whose lettering for noticeboards and school publications fascinated him throughout his school years. As a pupil, Puertas enjoyed imitating those letters, an early fascination revisited in this design.

Ochoa compresses letters almost to illegibility, creating an intense rhythm of black and white reminiscent of piano keys. The work of Dutch artist Vincent de Boer provides another reference for exploring letters as images. Accompanying glyphs inspired by Indigenous textile patterns extend this interest in repetition and texture, offering further possibilities for graphic compositions. Ochoa lends itself to posters, covers and short headlines where the visual presence of the letters leads the design. Set large, its narrow forms create dense bands of strokes and spaces, inviting the eye to move between reading a word and experiencing its pattern.
