Dawkins takes on sans serif design by looking at the proportions and movement of calligraphy. It is rooted in the influence of foundational writing and humanist letterforms, but the steady rhythm of industrial sans serif design also plays a part.

The family’s character is friendly, thanks to its soft curves, unique lowercase shapes and gently turned terminals. Such details add interest to individual words and maintain the composite texture of a paragraph. The italic adds a more compact, flowing voice for emphasis and changes of pace. Dawkins offers a useful starting point for editorial design, institutional communication and brand identities that need clarity with a human presence. Its personality is expressed through the drawing, allowing the same typographic voice to accompany substantial text and stand forward in a heading.
